It's Election Day in America

Happy Election Day! Go out and VOTE if you haven't yet. Or turn in your early ballots!

Here are some of the races I'm watching closely (and a bit of commentary):
  1. President: This is the race that has me on the edge of my seat a bit. I know that Obama has the lead in the polls but will the young voters convert their support into a vote even with the RNC's tactics. Here's hoping that constructive arguments win!
  2. Arizona's Proposition 102 (state constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman): Completely unnecessary. Arizona state law prohibits it and Arizona voters rejected a similar proposition two years earlier. On top of this, marriage is a religious institution and government has no right to dabble in this.
  3. Arizona's Proposition 105 (majority rule): It would make voting practically useless. A majority would be out of the entire number of registered voters and not out of those who vote. It encourages not voting, which is completely contradictory to the civic duty that has been instilled in Americans since youth.
  4. Arizona's Proposition 200 (payday loan system/usury 'reform'): It's a cynical proposition by the payday loan/usury industry intended to keep the payday loan/usury industry alive indefinitely in the state of Arizona.
  5. Maricopa County Sheriff (Arpaio v. Saban): 16 years of Joe Arpaio is enough. But are Maricopa County residents wanting change?
  6. California's Proposition 1a (high-speed rail in California): If this passes, then California will have shown the world that they really know what's going on. Arizona had a similar proposition but it was ousted from the ballots because of signature issues. If California passes 1a, then Arizona's chances in 2010 are better.
  7. California's Proposition 8 (the same as Arizona's 102): It looks like this will go down in smoke. As California goes, so does the rest of the US...
Enough reading. Go out and vote!

Cheers-
Edward Jensen
